Meet Dr. Chitneni

Dr. Ahish Chitneni completed medical school at A.T. Still University (SOMA) completing his clinical rotations at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at NewYork-Presbyterian, the flagship academic hospital of Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine, with additional training at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), ranked number one in the world for orthopedics, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), one of the nation's leading cancer centers. He then completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at UC Irvine — an ACGME-accredited fellowship providing comprehensive training in the full spectrum of spine procedures including epidurals, radiofrequency ablation, joint injections, nerve blocks, and peripheral nerve and spinal cord stimulation trials and implants.

Dr. Chitneni specializes in the full spectrum of interventional pain management, with specific interests in neuromodulation, cancer pain, and minimally invasive spine care.

Dr. Chitneni's passion for research began in medical school, where he received the Best Paper Award at the AAP Annual Meeting for his work on nociception and pain processing in severe traumatic brain injury. He has since authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications spanning original investigations, systematic reviews, narrative reviews, case reports, and society best-practice guideline papers. He has contributed to over 12 textbooks published by Elsevier and Springer, covering topics including spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, interventional headache management, basivertebral nerve ablation, sacroiliac joint fusion, and pelvic pain. His research interests span neuromodulation and expanding the evidence base for minimally invasive spine care.

He has been recognized with the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) Rising Star Award in both 2024 and 2026, reflecting his contributions to the field at both a research, clinical, and leadership level. He is involved in leadership and involvement in national committees such as the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience (ASPN), and the Pacific Spine & Pain Society (PSPS).

Dr. Chitneni is the Founder of Criterio, building a physician clinical documentation platform that helps physicians ensure payer-ready documentation to reduce claim denials and improve patient outcomes.

In the past, he has worked at HealthTap (2015, Palo Alto) where he worked on medical operations for the company's concierge medicine program, supporting technology-enabled care delivery and physician-patient engagement initiatives.

He currently serves as a consultant for ASPEN Medical Products (2025–present) for resident spinal bracing education, and has consulted on the development of anatomically accurate interventional pain procedure models for DemoSpine Models.

Dr. Chitneni is a member of the ASPN ACCESS AI Initiative, a multidisciplinary group focused on the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into pain medicine and clinical practice.

In addition to his clinical and technology experience, Dr. Chitneni has participated in healthcare venture investing through the HaloHealth Fellowship (2023–2024) and the DigitalDx Ventures Fellowship (2023), an AI-focused digital health investment program.
